The Super 8 stage of the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup has almost come to an end and we have our semifinalists ready.
South Africa will take on Afghanistan in semifinal 1 at Trinidad and Tobago while India take on England in semifinal 2 at Guyana.
Along with the pitch issues, another much-discussed topic at the T20 World Cup has been the rain. Rain has already affected several group matches, and it remains a concern for the knockout stage as well.
The Sporting News takes a look at a reserve day rules for the knockout matches, and what happens if the weather intervenes.
What are reserve days in cricket?
A reserve day, as the name suggests, is a day kept in reserve in case the match on the scheduled date is abandoned due to rain or any other reason. Usually, reserve days are allotted for the final game or the knockout games of any tournament.

Are there any reserve days for semifinal games?
Reserve days have been allotted for the direct knockout games of the T20 World Cup -- the semifinals and final. However, the second semifinal won't have any reserve days if needed, instead, it has been allotted an extra time of 250 minutes in order to preserve the tournament schedule.
That is, the first semifinal will have a reserve day while the second semifinal will not have a reserve day.

What happens if rain washes out 2024 T20 World Cup semifinals?
Tied Semifinal: In case of a tie, a Super Over will be played to decide which team advances to the final.
Unfavorable Weather: If the weather conditions prevent the super over from being completed after a tie or if the match is abandoned or a no result, the team that finished first in their Super 8 group will progress to the final.
In this case, India and South Africa finished top of their Super 8 group and if their semifinals are washed out, these two teams will progress to the final.

When are the semifinals of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup?
Following the Super 8 games, the knockouts will be played. Semifinal 1 is set to be played between South Africa and Afghanistan at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago on June 26 (local time).
Semifinal 2 will be played between India and England at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27.
When is the final for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup?
The 2024 T20 World Cup final will be held on June 29, just two days after the scheduled second semifinal. Interestingly, the final also has a reserve day, on June 30.
