The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 began on 17 August and the competition is now beginning to hot up.
On Sunday, the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots faced off against the Barbados Royals in Bridgetown with the former desperately needing a win to get off the bottom of the league table.

They got off to an excellent start as openers Andre Fletcher and Will Smeed put on 115 for the first wicket in just 11.2 overs. A late blitz from captain Sherfane Rutherford, who finished on 65 not out off 27 balls ensured that the Patriots put up a challenging 220/4 on the board.
In reply, the Barbados Royals were cruising thanks to Laurie Evans and Rahkeem Cornwall even after the early wicket of Kyle Mayers for 22.

In the 15th over, with 46 needed off 6 overs, Cornwall hit a massive six to reach 99 before tapping a full toss down the ground for one and reaching his century off just 45 balls. He celebrated with a 'bat drop'.

The celebration was made popular by England batter Joe Root, who famously did it after a century against India at Headingley in 2018.

In the CPL match, Cornwall eventually retired hurt (not out) for 102, before Alick Athanaze and captain Rovman Powell saw the Royals over the line, chasing the target of 221 with 11 balls to spare.
