The high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 turned into a one-sided affair, leading to a wave of frustration among Pakistan fans.
Cricket legend Wasim Akram strongly criticized Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy, calling for drastic changes in Pakistan’s white-ball cricket setup after their crushing defeat to India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Pakistan’s bowling unit struggled massively against India, conceding 242 runs and failing to create pressure. India chased the target with ease, securing a six-wicket victory with 7.3 overs to spare.
Virat Kohli’s masterful unbeaten century (100*) and Shreyas Iyer’s steady 56-run knock ensured India’s dominance.
Akram, visibly frustrated, pointed out that Pakistan’s bowlers have taken only 24 wickets in their last five matches combined, averaging 60 runs per wicket.
What did Wasim Akram say about Rizwan's captaincy as fans left early during the IND vs PAK match in Dubai?
The former Pakistan captain called for bold decisions, urging a complete revamp with young, fearless players in white-ball cricket. He emphasized backing them for six months, even at the cost of short-term losses, to prepare for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
“Surgery is needed. Enough is enough. We have been losing with the same players for years now. It’s time to take a bold step and bring in young players who play fearless cricket,” Akram asserted.
Akram didn’t hold back in questioning the selection decisions, pointing out that players like Khushdil Shah and Salman Agha were not reliable choices against a team like India.
He also criticized Rizwan’s leadership, questioning his ability to read match conditions and make crucial decisions on the field.
“The captain is the leader of the ship. If he doesn’t know which match-winners he needs, then how will the team succeed?” he asked.

As the match slipped away from Pakistan’s grasp, a rare and disheartening sight unfolded—Pakistani fans started leaving the stadium early. According to Akram, this was something he had never witnessed in Pakistan’s cricket history.
“By the time India reached the 15th or 18th over in their chase, Pakistani players looked completely out of the game. Fans leaving early is something I have never seen before,” he lamented.
Akram called upon the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take immediate action. He urged the chairman to convene a meeting with the selection committee, captain, and coach, while also involving Pakistan’s cricketing legends to help make crucial decisions for the future.
