Before the start of the World Cup, Ireland had played a 3-match series against Pakistan where they beat the subcontinent team by 5 wickets in the first T20I.

Why does Waqar Younis believe that Ireland can upset India at the T20 World Cup 2024?

Waqar Younis has witnessed up close about what this Ireland team is capable of, when they beat Pakistan by 5 wickets in a T20I match at Dublin before the start of the World Cup. He was impressed and even congratulated the team after their victory.

Therefore, the former Pakistan bowler has warned the fans not to rule out Ireland when they face off against India at New York on June 5, saying: "It's not easy to score runs in New York, so don't rule out Ireland against India."

The pitch at Nassau County International Stadium in New York has received criticisms for the unpredictable and low scoring nature of their drop-in pitch. The extra grass left on the pitch provided massive help for the fast bowlers earlier in the match between South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Ireland also boats quality quicks with the likes of Josh Little and Mark Adair capable of causing trouble for the India matters on what is expected to be a tricky pitch.

Which teams have Ireland beaten in World Cup matches before?

Ireland have played a total of 47 matches in the World Cup, which includes both the T20 and 50-over (ODI) format. Among the 47 WC matches, they have managed to win 14 of them.

Ireland have beaten 8 different teams across the T20 and ODI World Cup tournaments.
