India talisman Virat Kohli has announced his retirement from the T20I Format. Kohli was the star of the show in the T20 World Cup 2024 Final, scoring 76 off 59 deliveries to guide his team to a total of 176 runs. India eventually won the game by 7 runs, and VK was awarded the Man Of The Match, on the night of the final.

After struggling to find his form in the entire tournament, Kohli decided to keep his best for the last. The Delhi-born batter bowed out of the shortest format with a World Cup triumph.

Speaking in the post-match presentation, Virat Kohli confirmed his retirement from the 20-over format.

Did Virat Kohli announce his retirement from T20Is? 

Virat Kohli confirmed that the 2024 edition is his last T20 World Cup for the country. He spoke about performing and outshining others on the big day after the lacklustre tournament that he had.

The star batter also revealed how the next generation of cricketers will take the team to greater heights, and keep the Indian flag waving high. 

This was my last T20 World Cup, and this is what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel you can't get a run, then things happen. God is great, and I got the job done for the team on the day it mattered, an elated Virat Kohli stated after the WC triumph. 

Now or never, last T20 for India, wanted to make the most of it. Wanted to lift the cup, wanted to respect the situation rather than force it, Kohli added.

This (Retirement) was an open secret, it's time for the next generation to take over, some amazing players will take the team forward and keep the flag waving high, Virat Kohli concluded in the post-match presentation.

When will the next T20 World Cup be held?

The next ICC T20 World Cup will take place in two years, in 2026. From now till then, an ICC Champions Trophy is set to be hosted in Pakistan, in 2025. The World Test Championship Final will also take place in 2025, after the conclusion of the ongoing (2023-25) cycle.
