'India vs Australia ODI series unnecessary' - Wasim Akram feels India are risking fatigue ahead of 2023 Cricket World Cup image

Team India were crowned as Asia Cup 2023 Champions on Sunday. India dismantled hosts Sri Lanka in what turned out to be a one-sided affair. India, courtesy of Mohammad Siraj, broke multiple records as they bowled out Sri Lanka for meagre 50 runs.

Indian openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill chased the target in 6.1 overs, and sealed the case for the Asian giants.

Rohit Sharma & Co. will now face Australia ahead of the World Cup 2023. A clogged schedule could hamper India's fitness levels and performances at the quadrennial event, according to former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram. Here is what he had to say.

What did Wasim Akram say about India's clogged fixtures?

Wasim Akram admitted that it is unnecessary to stage an ODI series against a mighty opposition ahead of the World Cup. Playing matches without adequate rest days could hamper India's fitness levels at the mega event.

Wasim Akram said, "it's unnecessary to keep an ODI series against Australia before the World Cup. There's already 9 fixed matches in the WC, you don't want your players to get tired"
