This was the third World Cup in a row in which Pakistan had failed to qualify for the semifinals, with the team performance prompting a whole host of changes in and around the national team.
Inzamam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam stepped down as chief selector and captain respectively, while coaches Mickey Arthur and Morne Morkel relieved from their duties as well. Former Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz took over as chief selector, while Mohammad Hafeez was named director of cricket as well as head coach.
Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal added to Pakistan coaching staff
In addition, Shan Masood and Shaheen Shah Afridi were named as the new Test and T20I captains. On Tuesday, the PCB announced its latest set of appointments in the form of Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal as fast-bowling and spin-bowling coach respectively.
A former pace bowler, Gul played 237 matches for Pakistan across all formats of the game, picking up 419 wickets. He also represented the Kolkata Knight Riders in the initial season of the IPL, and played for Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators in the PSL.

Ajmal broke onto the international scene in 2008 at the age of 30, making waves with his doosra, which batters found difficult to read. He took 178 wickets in 35 Test matches, while proving an exceptional weapon in Pakistan's T20 bowling armoury.
Interestingly, Gul and Ajmal join a set up that is now dominated by members of Pakistan's 2011 World Cup squad, the last tournament in which they reached the semifinals.
When is Pakistan's next match?
Pakistan will be in action next on 14 December, as they take on Australia in the first Test of their tour down under, in Perth.
