Top 10 scores posted by chasing teams in ODIs

South Africa holds the record for scoring the most runs in a run-chase in ODI Cricket. In 2006 while hosting Australia, the home side put on a stellar show for the crowd as they chased down a hefty target of 435. In the series decider, the home team ensured to emerge victorious after a memorable batting performance. Herschelle Gibbs scored 175 runs, partnered by skipper Graeme Smith (90), who missed out on a century by ten runs. They scored 438 runs in 49.5 overs, winning the encounter in thrilling fashion.

In 2009, Sri Lanka’s valiant effort of 411 runs for the loss of eight wickets went in vain as India beat its neighbors by just three runs. In the second innings, the Lankans fought back into the match after being sent to the cleaners by the Indian batsmen. Tillakaratane Dilshan and Upul Tharanga put up an opening stand of 188 runs before Kumar Sangakkara joined the party. Dilshan scored a magnificent 160, while Tharanga and Sangakkara both scored half-centuries - 67 and 90 respectively.
