The 2024 IPL has been one of the most exciting IPLs in recent years with records getting broken aplenty. This year’s edition of the tournament has been heavily dominated by the batters. The Impact Player rule has also played in the favour of the batters, with teams crossing the 200 and 250-run landmark easily.
Batters have dominated on an individual level as well, with 14 centuries already being scored in this IPL. One of those centuries was scored by Mumbai Indians’ (MI) former skipper, Rohit Sharma, against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Although the knock came in a losing cause, Rohit’s innings was fantastic, scoring runs all over the park.
Following the knock against CSK though, Rohit’s form has taken a huge dip as the Indian skipper has scored just 88 runs in his last seven innings in the IPL. With the ICC T20 World Cup just around the corner, Rohit’s form is a cause of concern for the Indian contingent that travels to the United States and the West Indies.
In MI's most recent game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rohit managed to score just 19 runs off 24 balls as KKR went on to win the game by 18 runs.

Third lowest strike-rate in 2024 IPL among batsmen with 300+ runs
A total of 27 batsmen have crossed the 300-run landmark this season, with Rohit scoring a total of 349 runs. Another cause of concern with respect to Rohit’s form has been his strike-rate. The 36-year-old has one of the lowest strike-rates among the batsmen that have scored over 300 runs this season.
Player | Matches | Runs | Average | SR | HS |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
KL Rahul | 12 | 460 | 38.33 | 136.09 | 82 |
Sai Sudarshan | 12 | 527 | 47.90 | 141.28 | 103 |
Rohit Sharma | 12 | 349 | 29.80 | 145.42 | 105* |
Ruturaj Gaikwad | 12 | 541 | 54.10 | 145.82 | 108* |
Jos Buttler | 10 | 338 | 42.25 | 146.95 | 107* |
The World Cup starts in a few weeks time and Rohit will have to gear up and pick his form back-up with a lot riding on his shoulders alongside other batsmen like Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube.
