South African Tabraiz Shamsi faced backlash on his comments on Suryakumar Yadav's terrific catch in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. The Protean spinner was then forced to take to Twitter to clarify his comments which he meant as a joke.
India had beaten South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final after a stunning turnaround in the last five overs. The Men in Blue emerged victorious by just seven runs in Barbados. One of the major reasons to be credited for India's narrow win, was not a wicket or a six, but a catch.
Suryakumar Yadav took a blinder on the boundary rope in the final over, leading to the dismissal of David Miller. In athletic fashion, SKY caught the ball, threw it in the air, stepped over the boundary rope, stepped onto the field, and caught the ball safely, leading to the wicket.
There were unfounded allegations during the time that the boundary cushions had been moved back from its original place much before the catch was taken. And a stray remark by Shamsi stirred up controversy.
