Pakistan played their inaugural match at the T20 World Cup 2024 against co-hosts United States of America, on Thursday. The Babar Azam-led side, were restricted to 159-7 at the end of their 20 overs.

The low-score on a certain batting track like that of Grand Prairie, has raised questions on the batting order of the Asian giants. The top-order, except Babar Azam, failed miserably in Dallas against USA. 

Pakistan veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik has opined Babar Azam should bat lower down the order, after Pakistan's middle-order struggles against USA. The comments have come after the middle-order failed to dominate USA's bowling attack.

What did Shoaib Malik say about Pakistan's batting order?

Speaking to media outlet Ten Sports, Shoaib Malik has suggested skipper Babar Azam to bat lower down the order. The 30-year-old opened alongside Mohmmad Rizwan against USA.

However, after the early departure of Rizwan, Babar was left alone, stranded, with wickets tumbling on the other end. Shoaib Malik has 

The middle order has not worked. You tried yourself as an opener, so you can try yourself in the middle-order. If there is any problem in the team that needs fixing, the skipper should lead from the front, Shoaib Malik suggested for Babar to bat in the middle order.

The middle order are skilful enough to do the job. The likes of Iftikhar Ahmed and Azam Khan just need guidance during their time on the pitch. And there is no one better than Babar Azam to do that job for the betterment of the team, Shoaib Malik concluded.

What next for Pakistan?

Pakistan will face arch-rivals India in their second outing at the T20 World Cup 2024. The Asian powerhouses will clash at the Nassau County Stadium in New York on June 09.
