The 'Big 3' of international cricket, England, Australia and India all start as favourites for the tournament. England will be looking to defend their 2022 title, and Australia are attempting to become the first-ever team to simultaneously hold all three ICC trophies, after winning the World Test Championship and the World Cup last year. India have not won an ICC event in over 10 years.

Most of the attention right now is on the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), and performance in tis tournament could be an important criteria for selection. However, several players have pulled out of the tournament through injury. How many of them are in danger of missing the T20 World Cup as well?

Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was cleared by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to play the IPL, after recovering from his horrific car accident in December 2022. However, pace duo Prasidh Krishna and Mohammad Shami will miss the tournament, meaning they could be out of contention for the T20 World Cup.

South African seamer Lungi Ngidi was also ruled out of the tournament earlier this week. It is still unknown whether he will recover in time to represent South Africa this summer.

England batter Harry Brook pulled out of the Test series against India, and subsequently the IPL after losing his grandmother. He is likely to be selected by England if available, but that will only be determined later.

Australia's reigning T20I player of the year, fast bowler Jason Behrendorff, suffered a fractured fibula in training and was ruled out of the IPL on March. His recovery time is at least eight weeks, meaning his appearance at the T20 World Cup is in doubt.
