Suryakumar Yadav is in danger of missing the first few matches of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), according to reports from Indian publication Times Of India.
SKY is an important player for his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI), as well as the Indian cricket team in the shortest format, given that he is currently the top-ranked batsman in T20Is.

The 33-year-old suffered a horrible ankle injury in a T20I against South Africa last month, which saw him being taken off the field.
Now, though, it has been revealed that the ravishing batsman has been diagnosed with sports hernia, which will see him miss the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy, as well as the first few games of IPL 2024.

Will Suryakumar Yadav miss IPL 2024?
The MI star is likely to miss the first few games of IPL 2024 as he is unlikely to return to action after his surgery.
What is a Sports Hernia?
SKY will be undergoing an operation to treat sports hernia in Munich, Germany, according to what a BCCI source informed TOI.
"SKY was recently diagnosed with a sports hernia. He is currently recuperating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. In two to three days, he will fly to Munich, Germany, to get operated for it. It means that he certainly won't be playing for Mumbai this season in the Ranji Trophy and is likely to miss the initial games for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL," TOI quoted a BCCI source as saying.
This means that we can expect SKY to return to action sometime during April, which will give him enough time to get back into his groove.
According to Cleveland Clinic, a website dedicated to health and fitness, "A sports hernia (also called athletic pubalgia, sportsman’s hernia and Gilmore’s groin) is an injury (usually a tear) in the muscles and/or tendons in your lower abdomen or groin that causes chronic pain. People who have a sports hernia can also experience nerve irritation from the injury, which can contribute to the pain and sensitivity of the affected area. The name “sports hernia” is misleading because there is no actual hernia involved. Healthcare professionals prefer to use the term “athletic pubalgia.”
"A sports hernia most often happens to people who play sports that require sudden changes of direction or severe twisting movements, but you don’t have to be playing a sport to get a sports hernia."
Will Suryakumar Yadav play for India at the 2024 T20 World Cup?
SKY's recovery in time will be crucial to India's hopes of ending an 11-year-long trophy drought.
Fans will be praying for the Mumbai batsman to regain 100% during IPL 2024, a tournament the player can use to get into match rhythm and warm up for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which will begin immediately after the conclusion of IPL 2024.
