India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav will not participate in the opening round of the Duleep Trophy, which begins on September 5. The star batsman is sidelined due to a hand injury he sustained recently.

Why won't Suryakumar Yadav play in the Duleep Trophy?

Suryakumar Yadav’s injury occurred during the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament last week while he was representing the Mumbai Cricket Association.

The injury happened while fielding at leg slip against TNCA XI in Coimbatore. This injury was significant enough to cause him to miss the final day of the match.

As a result, he will not be available for the first round of the Duleep Trophy, where he was initially set to lead India C against India D in Ananthapur from September 5-8.

What next for Suryakumar Yadav?

Yadav has reported to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for further assessment and rehabilitation.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to announce a replacement for him in the squad.

What else is happening in the Duleep Trophy?

In addition to the India C vs. India D match, India A will be facing India B at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The Duleep Trophy will serve as a crucial platform for Indian cricketers to showcase their skills as they vie for a spot in the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh, which begins on September 19 in Chennai.
