Who will be India’s new T20I captain?
Although it shouldn’t be much of a problem with Hardik Pandya being the ideal candidate to take over as captain after leading the team as vice-captain in the T20 World Cup and also captaining IPL side Mumbai Indians in the recent IPL season, recent news has sparked a major surprise hinting at a rather unpopular choice to become the new skipper of the T20I side.
The hero of the Final with his amazing catch of David Miller in Barbados, Suryakumar Yadav’s name has crept up to become the captain of the Indian T20I side recently.
Abhishek Tripathi, a sports editor and journalist for Dainik Bhaskar recently shared a cryptic message on his X account hinting at Surya’s appointment as the new skipper to lead the team into the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Although nothing can be said yet, Surya’s appointment as captain will come as a big surprise for many Indian fans.
Pandya has had much more experience than the 33-year-old when it comes to T20I cricket, but considering that the new coach, Gautam Gambhir might also have a say in this, anything can happen.
