The Arun Jaitely Stadium, when it hosted its first World Cup 2023 match, saw 754 runs scored across both the innings with no visible help available for the spinners.
'I don't know what he has done wrong' - Sunil Gavaskar
While it appears to be a tactical change, Gavaskar did not take kindly to it as he tore apart the Indian team management for dropping Ashwin. In the previous match against Australia, Ashwin bowled an economical 10-over spell of 1-34.
"Once again Ashwin misses out, I don't know what he has done wrong," Gavaskar said on Star Sports
Moreover, the cricket-turned-commentator also expected Mohammad Shami to get a call-up as the last time India faced Afghanistan in an ODI, he had taken a hat-trick, bowling a terrific last over to lead India to a famous win.
"I thought what Shami had done against them (Afghanistan) in 2019, getting a hat-trick, he would get a go."
