Are Malyalis lucky for Team India in ICC World Cups?

SANJU SAMSON

Sanju Samson was crowned champion at the recent T20 World Cup 2024. Despite not featuring throughout the tournament, Samson has a medal around his neck for being in the 15-member squad.

Sanju Samson became only the third Malayali cricketer to lift an ICC trophy with India.

SUNIL VALSON

Sunil Valson represented India at the 1983 ODI World Cup. The left-arm pacer, despite playing for Delhi in the domestic circuit, was a Malayali by linguistic origin.

Valson, like Samson, did not feature in the World Cup but won the trophy when India beat West Indies in the final.

S SREESANTH

Sreesanth was a part of two of India's World Cup-winning squads, in 2007 and 2011. The Keralite was an integral member of the side that beat Pakistan to clinch the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. He picked up the final wicket of Misbah Ul Haq, that led to India clinching the trophy.

Sreesanth was also a part of the ODI World Cup-winning team. He even played in the high-pressure final against Sri Lanka.
