Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has advised Babar Azam to let go of captaincy and focus on his batting to improve his performance.

Azam, lately, has seen a slump in form. After failing to perform with the bat in the T20 World Cup 2024 where Pakistan crashed out of the group stage, the star batter once failed to score runs in their recent Test series loss to Bangladesh

Batting in all four innings against the Bangla Tigers, the star Pakistan batter managed to score just 64 runs with 31 being his best score in the series.

As he looks to regain his long-lost form, Khan has shared some valuable advice for the 29-year-old ahead of Pakistan's upcoming Test series against England.

What did Younis Khan say about Babar Azam?

Speaking to reporters at a press event about Babar Azam, the former T20 World Cup-winning Pakistan captain said, "There are high expectations from Babar. Players should use social media wisely, but their real answers should come through their performances with the bat and ball. He (Babar) needs to focus on his fitness and work ethic because opportunities like these don't come around often."

Khan further advised the Pakistani star to learn from Virat Kohli as he added, "He has achieved a lot at such a young age, but what he needs to know is what he wants to achieve in the future. Captaincy is a small thing, performance is what matters. Look at Virat Kohli.

"He chose to step down from captaincy on his own terms, and now he's breaking records worldwide. This shows that playing for the country should be the priority. If there's any energy left, then play for yourself."
