Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been penalised for slow over-rate during his teams Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday evening.

Gill became the first captain in this edition of IPL to be fined for the offence.

Playing their second home match on the trot, CSK piled on 206-6 in their 20 overs. They restricted the Titans to 143-8 to score an impressive 63-run victory at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

With Ruturaj Gaikwad (46), Rachin Ravindra (46) and Shivam Dube (51) in big-hitting mood, Gill and the Titans bowlers struggled to gain a measure of control.

How much was Shubman Gill fined?

In an official press release, the IPL said: "Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 26.

"As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Gill was fined Rs 12 lakhs."

Gill made his debut as an IPL captain this season as he took over the reigns at Gujarat Titans from Hardik Pandya.

What next for Gujarat Titans?

The Titans will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, March 31.

They had started their campaign on a high, with a win over five-time champions Mumbai Indians. But they will look to iron out the mistakes after the big defeat to CSK.
