Shubman Gill scored his maiden IPL century in Gujarat Titans' (GT) 34-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday evening, joining an elite list of batsmen in the process.
The 23-year-old opener also became the first GT player to score a ton in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Gill displayed his wide range of strokeplay in an effervescent knock off 101 runs, which came off just 58 balls. He got off to a rollicking start, smashing Afghanistan bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi for four consecutive boundaries in the powerplay after the defending champions lost Wriddhiman Saha for a duck in the first over.
Although Gill scored just one maximum, he scored at a frantic pace, ending his innings with a strike rate of 174.14. What's more, in his 147-run stand with Sai Sudharsan for the second wicket, Gill managed the bulk of run-scoring while Sudharsan scored just 47 runs.
GT's win sealed their top two spot in the playoffs, becoming the first team in this year's IPL to seal their passage, while it drew curtains on SRH's disappointing campaign.
However, Gill, following his century, joined an elite company.

Shubman Gill achieves a rare feat
Never ever before did an Indian batsman manage to score a hundred across all formats in international cricket as well as the IPL in the same calendar year. That was until Shubman Gill achieved the feat.
Which batsmen have scored ODI, Test, T20I and IPL tons in the same year?
He joins Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene (2010) and swashbuckling Australian opener David Warner (2019) as the only players in the history of the sport to score a century in all three formats of the game and IPL in the same year.
Jayawardene started 2010 by scoring 108 in a winning cause in an ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka. He then lit up the ICC World Twenty20 in West Indies by scoring a fluent knock of 100 off 64 deliveries against Zimbabwe. His only Test ton in 2010 came against India, where he scored 174 in the 1st innings.
In IPL 2010, Jayawardene was among the best batsmen as he scored 439 runs in 13 innings. He scored an unbeaten 110 off just 59 balls to help Punjab Kings (then known as Kings XI Punjab) chase down Kolkata Knight Riders' total of 200 in just 18.2 overs.
David Warner, meanwhile, was one of the best players across all formats in 2019, scoring five international centuries.
He scored two ODI centuries (107 vs Pakistan, 166 vs Bangladesh), two Test centuries (154 and 335* vs Pakistan in two different matches), and a solitary T20I ton (100* vs Sri Lanka).
In IPL 2019, Warner was the recipient of the Orange Cap for scoring 692 runs in just 12 innings. He scored eight half-centuries and just one century, which came against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) - the southpaw stayed unbeaten on 100, facing 55 balls, as SRH posted 231 on the board. They handed RCB a 118-run drubbing.
Gill has already scored five international centuries this year: three ODI tons (116 vs Sri Lanka, 208 & 112 vs New Zealand), one Test ton (128 vs Australia), and one T20I ton (126* vs New Zealand).
