Recent developments indicated that Iyer's back injury has resurfaced, casting doubt on his availability for the upcoming IPL season. During his impressive 95-run knock in the second innings of the Ranji Trophy final at the Wankhede Stadium, Iyer experienced discomfort at the back.

During his innings, Iyer required treatment from the Mumbai physiotherapist for back spasms, and on the subsequent day, he was unable to take the field for the entire day's play.

Will Shreyas Iyer miss IPL 2024?

According to The Times of IndiaIyer underwent a scan of his back at a hospital, with initial assessments indicating an aggravation of the existing injury. There are growing concerns that Iyer may not be fit to participate in the final day of the Ranji Trophy final and could potentially miss the initial matches of the IPL.

“It’s not looking good. It’s the same back injury which has got aggravated. It’s unlikely that he will take the field on Day 5 of the Ranji Trophy final. He is in danger of missing the initial matches of the IPL,” a source told TOI.

This setback is not entirely unexpected, as Iyer had previously missed two Ranji Trophy matches due to back pain.

His struggles with the injury were also communicated to the Indian team management during the recent Test series against England.

Nonetheless, he was deemed fit by the National Cricket Academy's medical team head Nitin Patel which led the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to decline Iyer a central contract due to his absence from Ranji Trophy matches.

Later on Thursday, RevSportz reported that the KKR skipper's injury is not serious and he is unlikely to miss any match in IPL 2024.

Quoting a source the media house wrote,

Shreyas is scheduled to join the KKR camp on Friday. He is unlikely to miss games
