WPL 2024 frenzy has taken over the town as the second edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) begins on Friday, February 23, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

The first match will be played between Mumbai Indians Women and Delhi Capitals Women, who also contested in the final of the inaugural edition, won by the former.

Ahead of the curtain-raiser, though, the stadium bore witness to a lot of glitz and glamour, with Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan headlining the opening ceremony.

WPL 2024 captains do the signature 'SRK' pose

Getting SRK, who co-owns IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), to perform at the WPL 2024 opening ceremony was a masterstroke from the WPL organisers because of his unprecedented influence and brand value. 

The 'King of Romance' danced on few of his famous songs from his recent movies, such as 'Jhoome Jo Pathaan' from the movie Pathaan and 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya' from the movie Jawan, both of which was pan-India blockbusters at the box office.

SRK was then joined by the WPL 2024 captains - Harmanpreet Kaur (MI-W), Meg Lanning (DC-W), Beth Mooney (GG-W), Smriti Mandhana (RCB-W), and Alyssa Healy (UPW-W) - who performed the signature 'SRK' pose with the man himself on the stage.

An SRK fan page on X (formerly Twitter) tweeted by writing, "The heartbeat of millions and The icon of generations. SRK ROCKS WPL."

Another fan tweeted, "When there's @iamsrk on stage, you know it's always lit." 

At the opening ceremony, SRK also had some powerful words to say in encouragement for WPL.

Which other Bollywood celebs graced the WPL 2024 opening ceremony?

First up, it was Kartik Aaryan who started the proceedings at the WPL 2024 opening ceremony, dancing on a mashup of 'Bhool Bhulaiyya' and 'Dheeme Dheeme'. He was representing Gujarat Giants. 

Then, Tiger Shroff took things up by a notch with his skillful and silky dance moves. The actor was supporting Royal Challengers Bangalore. 

Next up, it was Siddharth Malhotra, who danced on the song 'Kukkad' from his debut movie Student Of The Year. He also met the players of Delhi Capitals, the team he was representing. 

Varun Dhawan, another debutant from the movie Student Of The Year, impressed one and all with his dance moves. He was representing UP Warriorz. 

Shahid Kapoor made perhaps the most kickass entry, riding on a bike to the tune of the famous BGM from his 2019 movie Kabir Singh. He was representing Mumbai Indians.
