Sean Paul's unique connection with former Windies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul
If you have heard a Sean Paul song, you will hear him sing 'Sean da Paul' towards the opening sequences.
Now, though, the 50-year-old rapper has revealed that he actually doesn't say 'Sean da Paul,' but rather pays tribute to the legendary West Indies cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who has scored the second-most Test runs by any West Indies player in history.
In a video by VICE titled The Story of 'Get Busy' by Sean Paul, the Kingston-born reggae artist, said:
There is a famous cricketer in Trinidad [Guyana], Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Everyone was like ‘Sean da Paul’, and that name stuck. And then I just started to say it in shows and met the dude Chanderpaul years later, and he’s like ‘Yo!’ But yeah, big up to Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
Their names sound similar, so he started using the name consistently throughout much of his music career.
Recently, Paul received his second nomination for Favorite Crossover Artist at the 2023 Latin American Music Awards.
