Aamer Jamal and Salman Ali Agha of Pakistan during Multan loss to England

Former Pakistan international Rashid Latif has blasted the current Pakistan cricketers after their heavy defeat to England on a batting pitch in Multan.

The hosts were knocked down by an aggressive England performance in the first Test of the ongoing three-match Test series.

It was an embarrassing loss for Shan Masood & Co. who lost by an innings despite scoring 556 runs in the first innings.

The hosts experienced a smacking defeat by an innings and 47 runs after England recorded a staggering 823/7 in their first innings. Trailing by 267 runs ahead of their second innings, Pakistan were bundled up for 220 runs on a flat surface in Multan.

How did Rashid Latif react to Pakistan's defeat against England in Multan?

Rashid Latif chastened the Pakistan players and claimed that they are a scared team.

The 55-year-old stated that the players are 'scared of losing'. Pakistan, under Masood, are on a six-match losing steak. The 29-year-old is yet to record his maiden win as Pakistan captain.

"After seeing three, six, eight Tests, it looks like the players are scared. Scared of defeat. The more you are scared to lose, the more you will lose. Once you are ready to take the defeat (it will be better)," the 55-year-old opined on his YouTube show.

Latif also advised the curators to curate better pitches. Having known England's aggressive style, the former Pakistan international revealed that they would always outscore their opponent, no matter what. Pakistan scored 556 runs in the first innings, and England mounted a 823-run total in response.

"Curate better pitches. Curate pitches where even the opponent is being dismissed. If you are making batting-friendly pitches in our (Pakistan) favour, remember that the opponent will always outscore you," Latif stated.

"You score 100, they will smash 200. You score 150, they will respond with a 300-run total. They proved it in this very Test. There is a stark difference (between the teams)," he concluded.

What next for Pakistan?

After the defeat in Multan, Pakistan will take on England in the second Test match scheduled at the same venue.

Masood would lead his men for the second, and a must-win match of the three-match Test series. The hosts would hope to avoid another series-loss at home, this time, with a game to spare.

The game begins on October 15 and would not only decide the fate of the series, but could also mean curtains for Pakistan in the race to the World Test Championship (WTC) final 2025.
