The former Indian captain commented at a time when speculations have been high of Kolkata Knight Riders' mentor and former Indian star, Gautam Gambhir being linked as one of the frontrunners to take over the role from Rahul Dravid after the T20 World Cup.

What did Sourav Ganguly say on the impending announcement of Gautam Gambhir as coach?

The former Indian captain highlighted the significance of a picking good coach without taking any names, in a tweet on the platform X:

This comment led to multiple reactions from the netizens, with some linking the message to his previous strained relationship with former Indian coach, Greg Chappell.

During the Australian's tenure as head coach, Ganguly was sacked as a captain and removed from the team, due to differences between the two individuals over a course of time.

When Ganguly returned to the team in 2006, he found his colleagues in the Indian team who were dissatisfied with the Australian's coaching style as well. Chappell was eventually sacked as the coach after the shocking exit in the 2007 ODI World Cup.

Was Sourav Ganguly's tweet hinted at World Cup winner?

Many speculated if Ganguly was a taking shot at Gambhir, who has not shied away sharing his straightforward opinions and criticisms of various individuals, from the players, coaches to the higher officials of the BCCI.

Gambhir took over the KKR captaincy from Ganguly in 2011 and eventually went to deliver two IPL trophies for the franchise. Both players have found plenty of admiration and support from the crowds in Kolkata.

When will BCCI announce the new Indian Cricket Head coach?

There has not been any confirmation regarding the appointment of the new head coach yet. However, the May 27 deadline has passed and according to several reports, no top foreign names have applied for the role.
