The Men in Blue are currently touring Zimbabwe for a five-match T20 series. However, it is a second-string side, with only three T20 World Cup 2024 champions.

Not so long after the Zimbabwe tour, a full-fledged side is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for an ODI and T20I series. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been rested from India's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Alongside the skipper, senior figures in Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are also set to be unavailable for selection.

Who will captain India in ODIs and T20Is against Sri Lanka?

Media outlet Sports Tak has given some major updates about Team India's selection of personnel for the Sri Lanka tour. KL Rahul is set to lead the side in the ODI format, while Hardik Pandya would take charge of the T20I squad.

Pandya was an obvious choice for T20Is, unlike Rahul. The Baroda-born all-rounder was the vice-captain of the side that lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados.

The newly-appointed head coach, Gautam Gambhir will oversee the meeting from a far. Gambhir also set to make some surprise calls for the T20 series against Sri Lanka, with a view of defining a core group of players for the format.
