However, Ashwin's heart-wrenching moment in the tournament came when the Tamil Nadu-born cricketer had to visit his hometown. Ashwin's mother was hospitalised amid India's third Test in Rajkot.
The off-spinner, on his YouTube channel, revealed an emotional talk with Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma as he sang praises of Sharma's leadership abilities.

What did Ravichandran Ashwin say about Rohit Sharma's captaincy?
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin praised Rohit Sharma for his gesture and effort in support of him. He recalled the time of his mother being admitted in hospital, during India's Test match in Rajkot.
He said,
I just wanted to go and be with her. There were no flights in Rajkot, the airport closed at 6 pm. I was tearing up, Ashwin recalled the horrendous times when his mother was hospitalised back home.
Rohit and Rahul (Dravid) Bhai came into my room. Rohit asked me to stop thinking. He was arranging a charter flight for me to be there with my family.
Ashwin also revealed how Rohit's gesture left him 'gobsmacked'. The Indian skipper had urged Kamlesh - the Team Physio - to be with Ashwin throughout the time.
I was gobsmacked. Rohit called Kamlesh (Team Physio), and checked up on me, and asked him to stay with me. Rohit goes ten steps ahead for his players. If I were a captain, I would tell my players to go back home. But Rohit was an outstanding leader that day. He called up on people to check on me. It was unbelievable.
