Batting first, India posted a modest total of 229 runs on a difficult batting surface. Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front with his 87-run knock. Suryakumar Yadav scored 49 runs off his blade to ensure the team posted a respectable total. David Willey picked three wickets, while Adil Rashid and Chris Woakes bagged two each.
In response, the defending champions were bowled out for just 129 runs in under 35 overs. Mohammed Shami picked four wickets, with Jasprit Bumrah contributing with three scalps as well.

An elated Rohit Sharma credited India's bowling attack for their performances at the ongoing ODI World Cup. The Indian skipper talked about the variety and mix in the team's bowling, and is well-balanced.
Speaking at the post-game presentation ceremony, Sharma said,
I think so (we have a variety in bowling attack), we have got a good balance there. A couple of good spinners and seamers bringing in their experience.
The Indian skipper also admitted that the batters need to perform better, to help the bowlers 'show their magic'.
Sharma added,
When you have a bowling line-up like that, it's important that the batters give them something to work with, and show their magic.
