Rishabh Pant's much-anticipated return to red-ball cricket in the Duleep Trophy 2024 was met with disappointment. Playing his first longer-format game in nearly two years, Pant managed to score only 7 runs for India B against India A on Day 1.

Despite his efforts to get back into rhythm, the star wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed by Akash Deep, with a stunning catch from Shubman Gill. Pant's return has been closely watched since his recovery from a serious car accident in December 2022.

While he made a strong comeback in the IPL and contributed to India's T20 World Cup success, the Duleep Trophy was seen as a step in his journey to regain a spot in the Test team.

How was Rishabh Pant dismissed in India A vs India B Duleep trophy match?

Rishabh Pant, playing for Abhimanyu Easwaran-led India B, walked in to bat at No. 5. He started confidently with a cover drive for a boundary, but his aggressive approach led to his dismissal after just 10 balls.

Pant attempted to hit a big shot, but he ended up giving a leading edge. Shubman Gill, captain of India A, ran backward and pulled off a diving catch to send Pant back to the pavilion.

India A's bowlers, particularly Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed, dominated the game. Pant's dismissal was part of a collapse, as India B struggled at 94 for 7 by the 44th over.

Pant’s short stay at the crease reflects the challenges of returning to red-ball cricket after a long break. With the Test season around the corner, he will be eager to make the most of his opportunities in the Duleep Trophy.
