Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has lambasted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for spending insane amounts of money on mentors for the recently announced domestic Champions Cup.

The 32-year-old last played an international match in 2019, and has represented various domestic levels and tournaments ever since.

Shehzad, who was supposed to be part of the Champions Cup, announced his decision of withdrawing from the tournament and blamed the PCB for wrecking the domestic system in Pakistan.

Pakistan have failed at the recent ODI World Cup 2023 and T20I World Cup 2024, failing to go pass the group stage in both events.

The opening-batter has been a critic of the PCB and various other stakeholders of the system, while fighting his way into the mix by playing in List A and first class tournaments.

What did Ahmed Shehzad say about PCB spending millions on Champions Cup mentors?

Shehzad slammed the PCB for spending 5 million Pakistan rupees on Champions Cup mentors and rewarding failed players by giving them call-ups.

"In a time when Pakistan is struggling with inflation, poverty, and massive electricity bills, the PCB is wasting 5 million rupees on mentors for doing nothing and rewarding failed players in the current team who brought Pakistan cricket to an All-time Low," Shehzad claimed on X.

The amount Shehzad mentions is the remuneration for five mentors of Pakistan's newly-announced Champions Cup teams. The mentors are Shoaib Malik, Misbah-ul-Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Waqar Younis.

Shehzad also said that the PCB gave call-ups to undeserved players, and disrespected players within the domestic circuit.

"It's even more disrespectful that the PCB claims they don't have 'instruments for surgery' which is a huge disrespect for domestic players. As a Pakistani and true cricket lover, I cannot support a system that has no value for merit. I refuse to be a part of this failed setup," the 32-year-old stated.
