Jailer is a Tamil film starring superstar Rajnikanth which has become a smashing hit. However, the movie and its producers were recently involved in a controversy with IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. 

The case was filed by  Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Spirits Limited. The case was filed against the filmmakers Sun TV Network Ltd, and film producer Kalanithi Maran.

What is the controversy?

One of the characters in the film, wearing the RCB jersey, is supposedly making derogatory and misognystic comments on a woman. 

The IPL franchise believes that the franchise and the team brand is being promoted in the wrong way. Such promotion would tarnish their brand image and legacy. 

The producers of the Rajinikanth-starrer movie have told the Delhi High Court that they would alter the clips from the movie where the RCB jersey is visible.

When was the Jailer film released? From when will the alterations come into effect?

The Jailer film was released on August 10. However, the RCB team jersey will be digitally altered and removed from the clippings of the movie here onwards.

The alterations will come into effect from September 1.
