T20 World Cup 2024 is just one night's sleep away. With the month-long cricketing action commencing on June 02, all the teams have already reached the United States.

One of the favourites to lift the T20 World Cup this year, is Asian powerhouse Pakistan. The Babar Azam-led side would hope to make amends on their fiasco in recent ODI World Cup 2023.

India's arch-rivals have gone through a phase of transition, on and off the field. The roles of the players have been both snatched, and swapped. One of the losers in the transition process, has been Pakistan's wicket-keeper/batter, Mohammad Rizwan.

Rizwan earlier lost his place as an opener to youngster Saim Ayub.  However, the 31-year-old was later promoted up the order, to open alongside him. Rizwan was also shunned of his role as the wicket-keeper to Azam Khan.

Former Pakistan International, Rashid Latif has stressed on the return of Mohammad Rizwan as the wicket-keeper for T20 World Cup.

What did Rashid Latif say about Mohammad Rizwan's return as wicket-keeper for T20 World Cup 2024?

In an interview on a reality show ahead of the World Cup, former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif spoke about Mohammad Rizwan to be the player guarding the stumps. Latif opined on the wicket-keeper to be a senior player, and someone who watches the game from behind.

You have Usman Khan and Mohammad Rizwan as wicket-keepers in the squad, apart from Azam Khan. Wicket-keeping should be done by someone who watches the game from behind the stumps, someone who is a senior, Latif stressed on the presence of a senior player behind the stumps.

Latif stressed on how Mohammad Rizwan was the undisputed choice as wicket-keeper, for four long years. The keeper is the skipper's understudy, and influences the game in guiding the decision-making.

Rizwan has been doing it for four years, and you just sacked him away from a role he was performing so effectively. The captain needs the wicket-keeper's help the most, more than any other player on the pitch, the 55-year-old stated.

Latif also talked about the recent failures of Azam Khan as a wicket-keeper. The failures mean the lack of confidence in advising the captain in real-time.

Azam Khan has been dropping catches, and is under immense pressure to perform, even the basics. How will he gather the guts to advice the captain on anything! There will be no communication, Rashid Latif spoke about Azam Khan's failures, and the need to replace him with Rizwan.

What is Mohammad Rizwan's record as wicket-keeper in T20Is?
