After losing two and a half days in the second Test of the series and battling against time, India managed to pull off a special win in Kanpur within a one and a half day's play, to win the series 2-0 and R Ashwin was adjudged as player of the series for his all-round performances in the two matches.

With a match-winning century and a six-wicket haul in the first Test at Chennai and another five wickets in the Kanpur Test, Ashwin was awarded his 11th player of the series award where he equaled the great Muttiah Muralitharan's record while still playing 19 series fewer than the Sri Lankan.
