Who will win the IPL Purple Cap 2023? Betting odds, favourites, predictions image

Each year, the IPL recognises the competition's best bowlers with the Purple Cap, awarded to the player who records the most wickets during the season.

Aside from the title, the Purple Cap is one of the most prestigious awards in the competition, with players from Dwayne Bravo to Andrew Tye taking home the prize.

In 2022, Yuzvendra Chahal became the latest player to be awarded the Purple Cap, but who will win the award in 2023?

Who will win the IPL Purple Cap in 2023?

As the IPL comes into focus this, here are the names who are almost guaranteed to be in contention for the IPL Purple Cap.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Chahal is the reigning Purple Cap holder, and there is no reason that his top form and elite wicket-taking ability will not roll over to 2023.

He took 27 wickets in his winning campaign last year, and Dafa Sports have him pencilled in as a co-favourite to win the award once more, holding the same odds as Rashid Khan and Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva.

While there hasn't been a back-to-back winner since Bhuvneshwar Kumar in 2016 and 17, his efforts last season show he has what it takes to be the league's best.

Jofra Archer

It is almost a surprise Archer is yet to win a Purple Cap, having been one of the world's most deadly bowlers for the last number of years.

Despite a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Archer has the co-third-highest odds according to Dafa Sports, tied with four other people, showing that he is well and truly considered one of the league's top bowlers.

After returning from injury, can 2023 be the year that Archer breaks through for the Mumbai Indians, and claims the IPL Purple Cap?

Rashid Khan

He's been in the top 10 of IPL wickets taken each season since 2017 and came extremely close to the top in 2018, losing to Tye by just three wickets, but Rashid Khan is never to be counted out.

With consistency like this, there is no question that Khan has the ability to end 2023 in sole possession of the IPL's Purple Cap.

Khan is currently the co-favourite for the Purple Cap, according to Dafa Sports, alongside two other players, but the star spinner's past pedigree might be enough to give him the edge over Hasaranga and Chahal.

Other contenders

With the amount of high-level bowling throughout the IPL, there are of course a number of other legitimate contenders, including Lockie Ferguson, Harshal Patel, and Mohammed Shami, each capable of taking out batsmen's stumps at will.
