Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has made a remarkable comeback to domestic cricket after a prolonged absence due to injury.
Shaw, who had been sidelined since sustaining a knee injury during his time in County cricket back in 2023, returned to action earlier this month representing Mumbai against Bengal.
In his second match back for Mumbai, Shaw displayed an outstanding performance by scoring a rapid century, smashing 159 runs off just 185 balls against Chhattisgarh on the opening day of the four-day match.
Remarkably, Shaw reached his century before the end of the first session of the day, showcasing his aggressive strokeplay and reminding the cricket fraternity of his talent.
Despite his stellar performance, Shaw remains grounded and focused on his immediate goals. When asked about the possibility of returning to the Indian national team, Shaw dismissed the idea for now, emphasizing his current priority of helping Mumbai win the prestigious Ranji Trophy.
What did Prithvi Shaw say?
"I'm not thinking too far off and want to stay in the present. There is no expectation, I'm happy that I'm back playing cricket. I have just come back after injury and just want to give my best. My aim is to win the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai and I'm trying to achieve that by contributing as much as I can going ahead," Shaw said in an interview with The Indian Express.
Shaw revealed that he had a sense of unfamiliarity and unease upon his return to batting following a lengthy five-month hiatus.
However, he gradually regained his confidence as he spent considerable time at the crease, overcoming his doubts and settling into his natural game.
"I wanted to do well but somewhere I wondered whether I would be able to bat in my style or not. Kaise kheloonga (how will I play), when I would make a comeback and whether it will be on a good note or not. These were the thoughts which were going around. But after I stayed for a few hours, things became normal," Shaw added.
Prithvi Shaw's remarkable comeback has boosted Mumbai's chances in the Ranji Trophy as they look to clinch their record-extending 42nd title. With his focus firmly set on his current goals, Shaw's dedication and determination might open the doors for an international return, especially with the uncertainty of Ishan Kishan's future.
