Local boy Ashwin was India's brightest spark at his home ground in Chepauk, as he helped India overpowered their opposition to secure a massive 280-run win.
The 38-year-old allrounder scored a century (113 off 133) in the first innings, before bagging a six-wicket haul (6/88) in the last inning, as he closed out the match for his team.
Recalling his experience under new head coach Gambhir, the 38-year-old provided a surprising assessment and compared him to his predecessor Rahul Dravid.
What did Ravichandran Ashwin say about India head coach Gautam Gambhir?
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin provided interesting insights about his first impressions about Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team.
He referred to Gambhir as a 'relaxed rancho', for his chilled approach to managing India's star players in the dressing room and during practice.
"I think he is very relaxed. I want to call him 'relaxed rancho'. There's no pressure at all. In the morning, there will be a team huddle. He is very relaxed about that as well. He will be like 'Are you coming? Please come'. It's like that," Ashwin said.

How did Ashwin compare Gambhir to former coach Rahul Dravid?
Gautam Gambhir took over as head coach from Rahul Dravid after India's T20 World Cup triumph in June 2024.
Ashwin, who was a regular in the Test setup, highlighted the key differences in coaching styles of Dravid and Gambhir.
"Rahul bhai is different than Gautam Gambhir. He is very regimented. Even a bottle should be kept at a particular place at a particular time. Everything should be in order according to him," the allrounder said.
In contrast to a strict approach of Dravid, he revealed that Gambhir was more of a 'people's man" who gave plenty of freedom to the Indian cricketers, who have enough experience of playing at the biggest level in the sport.
With Gambhir, he doesn't expect all that. He has a relaxed order. He (Gambhir) will be a people's man. He will capture the minds of the people. I think he will be loved by the boys.
