'Couldn't even run 2 kms': PCB chief selector Wahab Riaz reveals shocking details about Pakistani players' fitness image

Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chief selector Wahab Riaz has revealed some shocking details regarding the fitness levels of the Pakistan players.

The Pakistan cricket team recently toured Australia for a three-match Test series, with the hosts completing a 3-0 whitewash in what was a display of utter dominance by the home side.

The players have come under fire for their performances on the tour, with many also questioning the role of Mohammad Hafeez, who is Pakistan's Team Director.

What did Wahab Riaz say about the Pakistan players' fitness?

Riaz appeared on a cricket show for Pakistani news channel Geo News, which included a five-member panel of journalists, experts, and former players including all-rounder Abdul Razzaq.

One of the journalists asked Riaz, "One more thing that gets mentioned often is the fitness issues in our team. It is said that the team management and selection committee make compromises when it comes to fitness. What policy is being prepared on this issue?"

Sikander Bhakt, the co-host, chimed in and added, "I would like to add one more thing. The Yo-Yo Test (a fitness test for cricketers) used to happen. Why doesn't it happen anymore?"

Here's what the former Pakistan left-arm quick said:

Sikander bhai, I agree that we should be definitely conducting fitness tests. It was unfortunate that we had to announce the team in such a short amount of time. But we have come to hear a few things about the players' fitness.

The funny thing about the fitness levels, I would like to say something before I go, is that the previous management, I've heard, said that you shouldn't ask the players about their fitness levels. Don't ask them about their fitness in the last four months. Now that isn't my fault, is it? It is something that I have heard. I'll let you know when I get the confirmation. I don't know the logic behind it, but they (previous management) must have pampered the players. But I should let you know that the players couldn't even run 2 kms.
