The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) caravan just keeps rolling on and next up is a tussle between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
The IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali should be the perfect venue for another thrilling tie between two well-matched outfits.
Both teams have started the tournament well and the midway stage, have eight points each from seven games. A win on Friday will take them level on points with the league leaders.
Interestingly, both teams met each other on April 15 in Lucknow and it was the Kings who emerged from that tie with two points in their kitty. We were treated to a humdinger of a game, with LSG posting 159 after batting first. And Punjab Kings, in reply, sneaked home with three balls to spare and two wickets left.
KL Rahul-led Super Giants will want a measure of revenge against the Kings, who might yet again be without their skipper Shikhar Dhawan who is nursing an injury. Sam Curran could lead them in Dhawan's absence.

PBKS vs LSG Result
Check back here for live updates of the build-up and the action from the match itself.
23:51- Player of the Match: Stoinis deservedly gets the award after his knock of 72(40) and would have shone with the ball too if it weren't for his finger injury.
23:30- LSG win by 56 runs. PBKS tried their best but they had a gargantuan task in front of them after LSG's insane innings which saw them put up the second-highest total (257) in a single inning in IPL history. Stoinis and Mayers were the show stealers during the first innings, supported by an explosive knock from Pooran. In the second innings Yash and Naveen stopped PBKS from wreaking havoc, with both bowlers taking three wickets each. Taide tried his best to chase down a nearly impossible score for the Kings, but his efforts eventually were in vain.
22:52- 140-4 after 14 overs. PBKS are doing their best to fulfil the nearly impossible task of chasing the score LSG put up in the first innings. Taide and Raza's knocks have given PBKS a slim chance of securing the victory, now its upto Curran and Livingstone to put up 148 runs in six overs. We could be in for a blockbuster if the Kings batsmen turn up the heat.
22:14- 55-2 after six overs. Things not looking good for PBKS. While even LSG were two down after the powerplay overs, however, they have only scored 55 runs and need a run rate of 14.50 if they want to win the game. Stoinis has left the field as he was looking to steal the show with the ball as well, having injured his finger while bowling his second over. A tough task ahead for the Kings.
21:34- Second innings begins. Dhawan and Prabhsimran to open for PBKS. Stoinis to bowl for LSG.
21:20- 257/5 after 20 overs. The second-highest score in an innings in IPL history! LSG's batters really came through with Mayers and Stoinis getting half-centuries, with the rest helping them become the second-ever team to cross 250 runs in IPL. Dhawan and co. have to be perfect in the second innings, to pull off the highest-ever chase in the tournament's legacy!
20:50- Stoinis gets a well-deserved half-century, his second this year.
20:44- 175/3 after 14 overs. We could be looking at record numbers here! Stoinis and Badoni continued what Mayers started, and even with the latter's dismissal, Pooran has come in and scored three consecutive 4s. Dhawan may regret choosing to bowl with PBKS having to do it all in the remaining overs
20:01- 74-2 after six overs. A good start for LSG, however, Rabada has brought PBKS back into the game by dismissing openers Rahul and Mayers, especially the latter who was on fire scoring a quick-fire half-century before leaving the field. It remains to be seen if Badoni and Stoinis can maintain the momentum for the Super Giants.
19:30- The match begins! Rahul and Mayers open for LSG. Gurnoor bowls first on his IPL debut for PBKS.
19:20 - Impact Subs announced:
PBKS Impact Subs: Prabhsimran Singh, Mohit Rathee, Rishi Dhawan, Matthew Short, Harpreet Brar
LSG Subs: Krishnappa Gowtham, Daniel Sams, Prerak Mankad, Amit Mishra, Mark Wood
19:11- Lineups announced:
PBKS: Atharva Taide, Shikhar Dhawan(c), Sikandar Raza, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Jitesh Sharma(w), Shahrukh Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Gurnoor Brar, Arshdeep Singh
LSG: KL Rahul(c), Kyle Mayers, Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Nicholas Pooran(w), Ayush Badoni, Naveen-ul-Haq, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Yash Thakur
19:00- PBKS wins the toss. Dhawan chooses to field, LSG to bat first.
18:46- Pitch report by Samuel Badree: This is the first time LSG will be playing in Mohali but they have no fewer than 9 players in their ranks who have played previously with the Punjab Kings. So it remains to be seen how that familiarity manifests itself. We are on Pitch No. 3. There is a larger side 75m and 67m, straight hit is 73m. The surface looks like a belter. Nice covering of grass. It seems compact and hard and that suggests to me the ball will come on nicely onto the bat. The Average first innings score in Mohali is 173, but on this pitch PBKS scored 191 vs KKR in the only game they have won at home. So the team batting first will be aiming 200 with the dew factor later on. We expect a high octane contest.
18:45- The weather is clear and doesn't look like there will be any disruptions to the game. Teams are out warming up on the field, interestingly Dhawan has joined his side in the pre-match warm-up, PBKS could really do with him participating.
18:40- Welcome to TSN's coverage of PBKS vs LSG. Both sides will be looking to get closer to the playoff spots. PBKS have done well to maintain their momentum without skipper Shikhar Dhawan. LSG will be looking to bounce back from their recent loss and get back to winning ways.
Mohali has been a happy hunting ground for Quinton de Kock
IS Bindra stadium in Mohali will hold good memories for LSG batter Quinton de Kock. The South African wicketkeeper batsman has played two games here and has scored a fifty in each of them.
Sadly, De Kock has been kept out of the LSG lineup by Kyle Mayers so far. Will his good record here prompt LSG think tank to give him a chance tonight?
Will Mark Wood be in action tonight?
LSG pacer Mark Wood has been out of action for a while now and it is still unclear whether he is fit enough to make the team tonight against PBKS. Wood was sensational in the initial few games of the IPL and picked up 11 wickets.
PBKS will be hoping he is still not fit enough to play.
Can PBKS exploit Kyle Mayers' weakness?
Kyle Mayers has been one of the revelations for LSG this season. So much so that he's kept Quinton de Kock out of the lineup. The explosive opening batsman, however, has been susceptible to left-arm pacers.
And Punjab Kings have two top-notch left-armers in Arshdeep Singh and Sam Curran. Can they stop Mayers before he gets going tonight?
Will Kagiso Rabada play for Punjab Kings tonight?
Kagiso Rabada was one of Punjab Kings' major outlays in the IPL 2023 auction. However, he has played just two matches so far this season. There are doubts as to whether he will play against Lucknow tonight.
PBKS are yet to give out any indication as to whether Shikhar Dhawan will play tonight as well.
PBKS vs LSG: Head-to-Head
LSG, being a new franchise, have played Punjab King only twice so far. The head-to-head is pretty much even with both teams winning one game each.
PBKS vs LSG: Pitch Report
The IS Bindra stadium in Mohali is expected to be a good venue for batting. The pitches are generally conducive to strokeplay. However, the fast bowlers also have something look forward at Mohali, given that the track here generally offers a bit more pace than other venues in India.
