Electing to bat first, SRH were rocked early as openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head were dismissed in the first two overs. Their innings never got going after that, as they eventually folded for 113, the lowest first-innings score in an IPL final as the top score came from number nine batter Pat Cummins (24).

In reply, KKR completed their chase with minimum fuss. Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39) and Venkatesh Iyer (52*) ensured there were no hiccups as they finished the match in 10.3 overs to secure a third title for the franchise.

'Orange cap does not win you IPL titles' - Ambati Rayudu takes a potshot at Virat Kohli after KKR's IPL win

After the match, the individual awards for the season were given out at the presentation ceremony. Among these was the Orange Cap, presented to the top run-scorer of the season. India and RCB star Virat Kohli won it this year, with 741 runs.

However, the achievement did not seem to be well received by everyone. Speaking after the match, former CSK and MI batter Ambati Rayudu appeared to take a potshot at Kohli, saying,

[...] the KKR team really stood up with stalwarts like Narine, Russell and Starc who contributed their share in the team's win. And that's how teams win the IPL. We have seen over the years, it's not the Orange Cap that wins you the IPL but these contributions from everywhere, 300 runs each or 400 runs each.

Rayudu also went on to call Kohli a stalwart and a legend of the RCB team, but claimed that he needs to lower his standards slightly in order for the youngsters in the team to not feel the pressure to emulate him.

He has made no secret of his admiration for both CSK and MI, his former franchises and rivals of RCB. The ex-India batter has also been trolled online for his statements in the media ever since RCB defeated Chennai Super Kings on May 18 to knock them out of the tournament, and take their place in the playoffs.
