Australia won the toss and chose to field first. New Zealand openers Tom Latham and Will Young stuck out the first hour, putting on 47 before Young's dismissal triggered a collapse. They slipped to 84/5 and 107/8 before Matt Henry and Tim Southee dragged them to 162.

In reply, Australia lost two early wickets but managed to get to 124/4 by the close of play, with Nathan Lyon giving Marnus Labuschagne (45*) company.

Kane Williamson, Tim Southee reach a milestone 100 Tests

Yesterday, India off-spinner R Ashwin and England batter Jonny Bairstow reached the milestone mark of 100 Test matches played, as they faced off in the fifth Test in Dharamsala. They were joined today by Black Caps duo Kane Williamson and Tim Southee, who became the fifth and sixth players for their country to do so.

Williamson made his Test debut in Ahmedabad against India in 2010, starting with a bang as he scored 131 in the first innings of a drawn match. He has gone from strength to strength since, and leads the run-scoring charts for New Zealand, boasting a batting average of 55.

Southee has taken 16 years since his 2008 debut to achieve the 100-Test landmark, and is New Zealand's second-highest wicket-taker behind Richard Hadlee. Interestingly, despite being a bowler, has hit the seventh-most number of sixes in Test history, with 88 in his career.
