India international, Venkatesh Iyer will be a part of Lancashire for the ongoing One-Day cup, and the subsequent County Championship. Iyer will feature in the first two rounds of county, right after the ongoing One-Day cup. 

Iyer, who has been out of favour for India, has decided to put pen to paper for Lancashire in the English domestic circuit. He will join his fellow Indian, Ajinkya Rahane in the One-Day Cup. Rahane is a part of Leicestershire, while Iyer will represent Lancashire, playing his home games at the iconic Old Trafford Stadium.

Venky will soon be a part of the Lancashire setup, featuring in the remaining games at the One-Day Cup. His stint will last until late August, when the Red Roses play Surrey and Hampshire in the ongoing County Championship.

What did Venkatesh Iyer say on joining Lancashire?

Venkatesh Iyer expressed his emotions upon joining Lancashire, calling it a great opportunity for him to feature for the county. He also could not resist on speaking about the iconic Old Trafford, Lancashire's home ground. 

I am really excited to be joining Lancashire, and really excited to play at the Emirates Old Trafford. It is a great opportunity for me. I will look to contribute to the side and really looking forward to see the fans, Venky expressed his feelings on joining the English County Club via the club's Twitter handle. 

Moreover, Venky also spoke at lengths during his first interview after joining the club. He expressed his excitement to be able to play county cricket for the first time. He also talked about the rich Indian history at the club. 

I am incredibly excited to head over to England and to have the opportunity to play county cricket for the first time in my career. Lancashire is a very historic county with a long history of welcoming Indian players to their Club, Venky stated. 

I am looking forward to emulating the likes of Farokh Engineer, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and most recently Washington Sundar in wearing the Red Rose colours at Emirates Old Trafford, Venky reminded himself of the past.

The 29-year-old, who lit up the IPL 2024 with his performances for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has represented India in the limited-overs formats. Iyer spoke on playing in the English conditions and that playing red-ball cricket would benefit his overall game. 

To test my skills in both one-day and first-class cricket in English conditions is going to really benefit my game. I hope that I can entertain the fans and help my Lancashire teammates to achieve their targets in both formats this summer, the MP-born cricketer concluded.

What next for Lancashire and Venkatesh Iyer?

Lancashire will play Kent at Stanley Park in their next match in the ongoing One-Day Cup. The match is scheduled for Sunday, July 28. The Indian fans can watch Venky play for Lancashire from 15:30 hours (IST) on Sunday. The Indian all-rounder will be raring to go, starting his month-long stint in England as soon as possible.
