England chose to bat first in the match, scoring 353 after a century from Joe Root (122) helped them recover from 112/5. India then responded with 307 after keeper Dhuruv Jurel scored 90, batting with the tail.
After bowling England out for 145, India were set 192 to win, and were struggling at 120/5 before Jurel, along with Shubman Gill, took India over the line.
'MS Dhoni is in a different league' - Sourav Ganguly refuses to compare Dhruv Jurel to former India captain
On commentary during the match, former India opener Sunil Gavaskar had drawn a comparison between Jurel and Indian World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni. In just his second match, the wicket-keeper from Uttar Pradesh had played a couple of superb knocks, on the back of a well-made 46 in the first innings in Rajkot.
However, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly refused to make such comparisons between Dhoni and the young man. Speaking to RevSportz, he said,
MS Dhoni is in a different league. Jurel has talent; there's no doubt about it. But it took MS Dhoni 20 years to be MS Dhoni. Rather 15 years for Dhoni to be Dhoni. So let him [Jurel] play. Jurel's ability to play spin, pace, and most importantly to perform under pressure. That's what you look for in a youngster.
Jurel first burst onto the scene in last year's IPL, playing for Rajasthan Royals. Despite his emergence as a finisher in the T20 format, his first-class batting record is also stellar, especially for a wicketkeeper. It is still early, but he has shown signs of becoming a future star.
