MS Dhoni has delivered yet another shocker of a moment, to the cricketing world. As he has always been, the one to quit something without any fuss, Dhoni stepped down from his role as Chennai Super Kings captain, on Thursday. 

The news broke one day before the IPL 2024 opener between CSK and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The customary pre-season photoshoot with the IPL trophy involves all IPL captains. 

Ruturaj Gaikwad was announced as CSK skipper after Dhoni decided to vacate the post. Head Coach Stephen Fleming, who has been associated with the CSK since its inception, talked about his skipper stepping down from his position.

What did Stephen Fleming say about MS Dhoni leaving CSK captaincy?

Stephen Fleming has been MS Dhoni's coach ever since he retired as a player. Fleming has been associated both with CSK and Rising Pune Supergiant (Dhoni played for RPS in the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons).

In a conversation with RevSportz, Fleming revealed the reaction of the squad upon hearing the news as he said,

Typical MS Dhoni, it was very lowkey, there were emotions but quickly the players went into a celebration for Rutu (Gaikwad).

How did CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan react to MS Dhoni leaving IPL captaincy?

CSK CEO, Kasi Viswanathan revealed to PTI, his immediate reaction to MS Dhoni resigning from the post of CSK captain. 

The CSK CEO stated how he was taken aback by Dhoni's decision, but respects the call made by the 42-year-old.

 I got to know of the decision just before the captains meeting. You have to respect his decision, it is his call - Whatever Dhoni does, it is in the best interest of the team.
