Even though Afghanistan didn't get a fairytale ending, they punched above their weight to reach the semifinal of T20 World Cup 2024. One of the standout performers for the Asian team was pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi, who finished the campaign as the as the highest wicket-taker in a single edition of the T20 World Cup.

Farooqi dismissed South Africa opener Quinton de Kock to go past Wanindu Hasaranga's tally of 16 wickets at the 2021 T20 World Cup.

As it happened, de Kock was the only batsman to fall as South Africa romped to a nine-wicket win after dismissing Afghanistan for a mere 56. It was the first time that a team was bowled out for under a 100 in a T20 World Cup semifinal.
