Despite the series win, many fans online still harboured disappointment over the World Cup final which took place two weeks ago. Australia comprehensively defeated India in that match to secure their sixth world title.

Former India player Mohammad Kaif courted controversy after that result, claiming that 'the better team did not win the World Cup' and that 'the Indian team is the best team on paper'. After Sunday's result, Kaif took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his thoughts on the series, including a reference to his earlier comments.
