India started the day on 219/7, trailing by 134 runs. The morning session saw Kuldeep Yadav and Dhruv Jurel stand firm, before the former was dismissed by James Anderson. In the company of Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, Jurel then dragged India to 307, becoming the last wicket to fall for 90.
England were then rocked early, as R Ashwin dismissed Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope on consecutive deliveries in the fifth over. Thereafter, Joe Root and Zak Crawley began to stitch the innings back together.
Michael Vaughan deletes tweet questioning DRS over Joe Root dismissal
In the 17th over, first-innings centurion Root was struck on the pad by R Ashwin, and given not out LBW by umpire Kumar Dharmasena. India reviewed the decision, and the DRS revealed three reds, meaning Root had to return to the pavilion.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan took to X (formerly Twitter) to provide his thoughts on the dismissal, claiming that it was 'a shocker for technology'. However, he deleted the post soon after.

When the DRS replay came up on screen, the ball pitched on leg stump, and regulations state that at least half the ball must be pitching within the line of the stumps in order to be deemed as pitching in line. The decision was extremely close, but ultimately the delivery fulfilled the conditions.
The line of the stumps runs from the outside of the stump. The *centre* of the ball must land inside this (when issue is pitching outside leg). There is no umpire's call. It was as tight as they come. But it was out. (And we need to keep technology sweet or Terminator 2 happens) pic.twitter.com/yjUtSjA0k4

Vaughan continued to question the decision, wondering why replays of the wicket were not frequently shown afterwards.
Interested to know why we haven’t seen many replays of the Root dismissal … Surely it’s the main moment of the innings so far so we should be seeing it a lot more … Asking for a friend … #INDvENG
