Mumbai Indians (MI) host second-placed Rajasthan Royals in a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) clash on Sunday at the Wankhede stadium

MI are currently reeling at the ninth spot on the table, having suffered back-to-back losses against Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans. There are plenty of concerns for Mumbai, especially when it comes to their top order, where Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have not been consistent enough.

However, their biggest struggle has been the bowling department, where the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and the unavailability of Jofra Archer has been felt. Their bowling currently is very lightweight and has leaked plenty of runs in the death overs.

Royals, on the other hand, are in good form, having just defeated Chennai Super Kings with a comprehensive performance. Their top order is in very good form, with Yashasvi Jaiswal impressing.

But it is their spin contingent that makes them stand out. Adam Zampa, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin are hard to get away and match-winners in their own right.

As the IPL 2023 action keeps rumbling, The Sporting News brings you all the live score updates, analysis, team news and highlights from the match.

MI vs RR: Live Updates

Check back here for all the build-up and action from the match itself.

00:10- Yashasvi Jaiswal wins the Player of the Match for his amazing knock of 124(62).

23:54- WHAT A MATCH! MI win by 6 wickets. David came through for MI at the death replicating what Punjab Kings did earlier today. Most teams would be bogged down by Jaiswal and RR's display in the first innings, however, MI showed why they're the most successful franchise in the IPL. RR and in particular Holder will be disappointed with their bowling at the death and letting MI chase down such a big score. Jaiswal's century was sadly in vain, however unlike the Royals, the Indians were a collective unit when batting and not a one-man show. Nonetheless, both sides put up a display worthy of being the 1000th game of this great tournament.

23:09- 141/3 after 14 overs. MI are very much in the game, unlike Jaiswal for RR, all their batsmen are contributing in different ways. The pick of the batters has been Suryakumar who has taken over from Green and is dispatching everything RR bowlers throw at him. The Royals will be keen on taking his wicket and disrupting MI's momentum before they are able to make a late push as Punjab Kings did against CSK in the previous game.

22:53- 58/1 after six overs. A good start for the Indians with Green making up with the bat for his performance with the ball earlier. However, still a long way to go for MI and they will need their other batsmen to turn up in case Green doesn't replicate Jaiswal's heroics in the first innings. RR will be looking to take his wicket and slow down the run rate now that the powerplay overs are done with.

21:50- Second innings begins. Sharma and Kishan open for MI, Boult with the ball for RR.

21:33 - 212-7 after 20 overs. An innings of a lifetime from Jaiswal in the 1000th IPL match, who with his knock of 124(62) will give MI bowlers nightmares for days to come. It was a one-man show all around with Jaiswal carrying his side across the 200-run mark. Not the birthday MI skipper would've imagined with him and his batsman having it all to do in the second innings. A tough task for the Indians, but this season has been full of surprises. The Wankhede stadium is up for an all-timer if the MI batters get going too.

21:18- Jaiswal gets his century! An excellent innings from the RR batsman who gets the third century of this IPL innings.

20:54- 142-3 after 14 overs. Jaiswal continues to be a problem for MI with the RR batsman showing excellent form and being a menace for the opposition bowlers and fielders. Piyush has been the best player so far for the Indians, having taken the wickets of Buttler and Padikkal, however, even he couldn't dismiss Jaiswal during his four-over spell.

20:10- 65-0 after six overs. A strong start for RR in the first six overs they have made the most of the powerplay overs with Jaiswal being the show stealer so far. He has allowed Buttler to relax at the opposite end scoring the brunt of Royals' runs. MI's bowlers have not been able to give skipper Sharma a birthday gift so far, they have a lot to do and will be glad the powerplay overs are done with.

19:35- Slight delay to proceedings, but the players are out now. Jaiswal and Buttler open for RR. Green bowls first for MI.

19:16-  Impact Subs announced:

Rajasthan Royals Impact Subs: Donovan Ferreira, M Ashwin, Riyan Parag, Kuldip Yadav, Kuldeep Sen

Mumbai Indians Impact Subs: Nehal Wadhera, Ramandeep Singh, Vishnu Vinod, Shams Mulani, Arjun Tendulkar

19:12- Teams Announced:

MI: Rohit Sharma(c), Ishan Kishan(w), Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Jofra Archer, Piyush Chawla, Kumar Kartikeya, Riley Meredith, Arshad Khan

RR: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson(w/c), Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jason Holder, Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, Yuzvendra Chahal

19:02- RR win the toss. Choose to bat.

18:46- Pitch Report: "Dimensions of the ground - 61m one one side and 67m on the other, 72m down the ground. This looks like a beauty. The last time a game was played on this surface, Venkatesh Iyer scored the most fabulous hundred. Are they going to chase? This season it is suggesting setting the score is probably the best course of action," says Kevin Pietersen.

18:30- Welcome to TSN's coverage of MI vs RR which also happens to be the 1000th IPL game. MI will be looking to end their torrid form while RR look to go to the top of the table.

1000th IPL game

MI vs RR at the Wankhede is all set to be the 1000th IPL game and the special occasion will be marked by a 15-minute show before the game.

The show will be hosted by Ravi Shastri and will feature league veterans and former players speaking.

Boult and Archer up against their former teams

There is an interesting undercurrent to Royals' clash against Mumbai Indians. Both teams' main pacers Trent Boult and Jofra Archer are expected to be fit to play a part on Sunday. Interestingly, both will be up against their former teams.

Boult was a star for Mumbai Indians in the 2020 IPL when his electric performances won MI the title and he was also the Most Valuable Player.

Archer, on the other hand, played for Royals between 2018 and 2020.

Royals the favourites in Mumbai?

It's not often that the visiting team starts as the favourites at the Wankhede. However, Mumbai Indians' bowling has been lacklustre this season and considering that the Royals have been one of the high-scoring teams in the tournament, it's a lopsided contest on the face of it.

Can MI turn the tables at home?

MI vs RR: Pitch Report

The Wankhede stadium generally has an extremely batting friendly wicket with consistent bounce. It does take some spin but nothing alarming. Moreover, the relatively short boundaries at Wankhede should make high scores the norm.
