Rohit Sharma praises Hardik Pandya after win against Bangladesh
Following the 50-run victory against Bangladesh in the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2024, the Indian skipper took his opportunity to praise Hardik Pandya's performance during the post-match presentation ceremony.
“I mentioned in the last game as well, him batting well puts us in a good stead. We want to finish well and Hardik being Hardik, we know what he is capable of,” Rohit said post-match
He highlighted the importance of the all-rounder in the team and said that the team will be in great positions if he can consistently put out these performances.
"Today was a perfect example of what he can do with the bat. He's a very important player for us. If he can keep doing that, we will be in good positions."
He also praised the approach of other Indian batters, who also made significant contributions. Virat Kohli scored 37 off 28 balls, Rishabh Pant added 36 off 24 balls, and Shivam Dube hit 34 runs off 24 balls.
"I have been talking about this for a long time now. It's about going there and putting that into work. Considering everything we played really well, adapted to the conditions. All eight batters need to play their role, whatever it is. We saw one guy get 50 and we got 197, in T20 I don't believe we need to get fifties and hundreds, what matters is the pressure you put on the bowlers." he said
Rohit also acknowledged that all the batters in the team executed all their plans to perfection, which resulted in a crucial win in the Super 8s.
“All the batters from the word go played well and that's how we want to play as well. There is a lot of experience in the squad, and we back them,” the Indian skipper added
Pandya became the first Indian No. 6 to score a half-century in a T20 World Cup game. In the tournament so far, he has scored 89 runs with a strike rate of 141 and taken eight wickets. India will play their next Super 8 game against Australia, on June 24.
