Hardik Pandya revealed Gujarat Titans' Yash Dayal's "condition is not good" as the bowler has lost "seven-eight kilos" after he was hit for five sixes by Rinku Singh on April 9 at the Narendra Modi Stadium to steer the Knights to a three-wicket win in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
Dayal had 28 runs to defend in the final over but the left-arm pacer ended up conceding 30 in the last five balls to lose the match. Since then, Dayal has not made it to any of the matchday squads of GT.
What did Hardik Pandya say about Yash Dayal?
Pandya, the skipper of the Ahmedabad-based franchise, has now revealed that the player is fighting a battle to regain his fitness and his journey in this edition of IPL might be over.
When asked when we can once again see Dayal back on the pitch, after GT's win over Mumbai Indians on Tuesday, Pandya said, "I can’t confirm that."
He went on to add, "He fell ill and lost 7-8 kilos after that match. There was a spread of viral infection during that period and also due to the pressure he had faced, his condition is presently not good enough to take the field. Someone’s loss is someone’s gain at the end of the day. It is going to take a long time before we see him on the field."
How did the incident affect Yash Dayal's family?
The result of the KKR match had taken a heavy toll on Dayal's family as well, especially on his mother who had stopped eating for a couple of days after watching the misery of her son.
However, his father continues to believe in him and remains confident that he will come back stronger from this episode.
"These are the moments sport is made up of. Even in life, you come across failures, it's important to stand up stronger," Chandrapal, Yash's father, had told PTI.
