'Kohli spat at me' - Retired South African batsman Dean Elgar recalls ugly faceoff with Virat Kohli

Recently retired South Africa batsman Dean Elgar has made a shocking revelation about Indian star Virat Kohli while on a podcast recently.

Elgar retired at the end of India's two-match Test Series against South Africa in January 2024. On the podcast, Dean Elgar recalled this certain scenario from his maiden visit to India. In 2015, Elgar visited India and had an on-the-pitch tussle with Virat Kohli.

Kohli initiated a shameful act towards Dean Elgar, who then recalled a rare incident of him having an on-field face-off with the then-Indian captain.

What happened between Dean Elgar and Virat Kohli?

Speaking on the ‘Banter with The Boys’ podcast, the South African spoke about an on-field face-off with star Indian batter, Virat Kohli.

He said,

In India...those wickets were jokes. I came into bat and I was actually holding my own against Ashwin and Jadeja, and Kohli, he like spat at me. I said to him, ‘if you do that, I’ll f*****g *** you with this bat. 

When asked if Kohli understood what Elgar said, the southpaw replied, 

Yes, he did because (AB) de Villiers was his teammate at RCB so he understood. I said ‘if you do that, I’ll absolutely knock you out.

What is Dean Elgar's record for South Africa?

Dean Elgar has represented South Africa in the Test and ODI formats. He made his ODI debut in August 2012, before making his Test debut later in November that year. 

Elgar played his last ODI for South Africa in 2018 against Zimbabwe in Bloemfontein. He played his final Test against India, six years later, in 2024 in Cape Town. 

He was a distinguished player in the red-ball format and scored over 5000 runs in 86 Test caps for the Proteas.
